We are very pleased to introduce you to Alan Babu Joseph! Alan is a Master’s student of Biomechanical Engineering at Otto-von-Guericke-Universität Magdeburg and is originally from India. With his enthusiasm and commitment, he brings a breath of fresh air to innovative research at the fem Forschungsinstitut.
Why did Alan decide to do his Master’s thesis at fem?
👉 “The fem’s excellent reputation in materials science and additive manufacturing convinced me straight away,” explains Alan. He particularly appreciates the opportunity to work in a multidisciplinary team and conduct research at the interface of technology and biomedicine. “This fits in perfectly with my professional goals.”
His Master’s thesis is dedicated to the mechanical and microstructural stability of additively manufactured zinc components for technical and biomedical applications – a research topic that combines the fields of additive manufacturing and biomedical engineering. But why zinc of all materials?
💡 “Zinc is a fascinating material, precisely because of its biodegradable properties. It offers exciting approaches for sustainable and innovative solutions – especially in implant technology and manufacturing,” emphasizes Alan.
What excites him most about his work?
💬 “I find it incredibly exciting to find out how additive manufacturing processes affect the microstructure and mechanical stability,” he explains. “Transferring these findings to practical applications, whether in the technical or biomedical field, motivates me immensely.”
What do the next few months look like for Alan?
🔍 Alan wants to gain even deeper insights into material analysis and achieve high-quality research results. The fem offers him the ideal environment for this.
And what are his plans for the future?
🚀 Alan is aiming for a career in research and development – with a clear focus on biomedical engineering and sustainable materials. His goal? “I want to advance projects that solve real problems and improve the quality of life through technological innovation.”
We are proud to accompany Alan on this journey and to work with him on innovative research results! 🧠💡
