NEW PROJECT

The copper curriculum vitae goes digital - for innovative material design to recycling.

The project KupferDigital develops methods and concepts to digitally record the life cycle of copper - from ore extraction to recycling. The basis is the development of so-called ontologies. These can be understood as a kind of knowledge network. They serve as common standards for the description of materials and technical processes. They help with the digital recording of process steps and material properties.

PROJECT RESULT

Recycling: Reprocessing of neodymium magnets from electric drives.

The recovery of magnet-associated rare earths is mainly limited to production waste; in the post-consumer sector, these materials are largely lost in household waste incineration and metallurgical slags. The aim of the project was to design a reprocessing process for old neodymium-iron-boron (NIB) magnets that would provide a product for the production of new magnets.
